What is a LUCID number?
A LUCID number, or EPR number, is a unique identifier assigned to businesses that handle packaging (the registration number at the Central Agency Packaging Register—ZSVR). It's part of a system designed to ensure proper waste management. All distributors of packaging in Germany are obliged to register with the ZSVR.
Registering for a LUCID number: A step-by-step guide
You need to register your business in the LUCID database in order to obtain a LUCID number.
1. Access the LUCID registration portal: At the bottom of the page, choose Producers > Launch registration process.
2. Create an account: Add your company details and your contact information. You'll have to propose a password and confirm that you're not a robot.
Note: After creating your account, an activation link will be sent to your provided email address. You have 24 hours to click on the activation link.
Once confirmed, your account will be active, and you can log in again.
3. Fill in your remaining information beginning with Master data.
Complete the required fields with your company details.
Note: For US sellers, or anyone without a VAT ID, click on the prompt under the VAT number / taxpayer reference number section titled If you do not have a european VAT number, click here to go to the national taxpayer reference number entry. Two additional fields will appear, where you’ll be prompted to enter your alternative tax number. Start with the drop-down menu to select the type of tax number you’re entering. If none of the options apply to you, you can select Other. Fill in the other field with your number.
4. Submit registration: Once you've entered all of your information and completed every field, submit your registration.
Note: After a successful registration, you will receive your LUCID number. Keep this number safe, as you'll need to provide it to the marketplaces you sell with for compliance purposes (i.e. eBay, Amazon).
