EORI number definition
EORI number stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification number. It is a European Union registration and identification number for businesses that undertake the import and/or export of goods into or out of the European Union.
The EORI number is used during customs processes and allows governments to monitor what is being imported and exported between EU and non-EU countries.
EORI number requirements
The EORI number is required if your business exports to the EU from the UK, or imports from the EU to the UK.
How to apply for an EORI number
The application process for receiving an EORI number is free of charge.
If you are based in the UK, exporting to a non-UK country will require a GB EORI number. You can visit the UK government website for application submission steps. Once you fill in and submit the application form electronically, you will receive your EORI number through email.
If you are based in the EU, exporting into the UK and/or non-UK countries will require an EU EORI number. The application process requires applying with your local customs office.
If you are not sure if your business already has an EORI number, you can check online using the validator on the European Commission site. If you are already a UK VAT-registered business, you have most likely had an EORI number assigned to you.
Shipping without an EORI number
If you do not supply an EORI number, your goods will be held until you supply the required paperwork. This may result in additional storage fees and international parcels being delayed.
There are no additional charges for not providing an EORI number and your goods will not be destroyed.
How to add an EORI number to Webinterpret Shipping
You can add your EORI number from Settings in the Webinterpret Shipping Dashboard.
Webinterpret will automatically add your EORI number to your customs documentation for shipments when it is required to do so.
